The Best Gambling Strategies To Protect your Bankroll

The best gambling strategies should be mastered prior to setting out to conquer any specific game. There’s always time to look for the top gambling strategy specifically crafted for blackjack, craps, roulette or any of the other casino games that might tempt you. But to build the strong foundation that is essential for gambling you should first decide on an overall game plan that will be valuable in every facet of your play.

Since managing resources is critical to any long term plan for success, one of the best gambling strategies is to adopt, and master, a wagering philosophy with which you are comfortable. Of course each particular game is more suited to one wagering system than another. But, in general, you’ll find that certain strategies can create opportunities for some impressive winning streaks at every game. In gambling online, strategy to manage your betting amounts is even more important because of the rapid speed of play on internet casino games.

In developing your betting personality, one of the best gambling strategies is to incorporate a progression betting system into your game. To do this, first learn the differences between what I like to call a “defensive” progression system and an “offensive” progression system. Once you’ve determined which of these approaches best fits your personality and risk tolerance you can use the system to your advantage in virtually any casino game.

With a “defensive” progression strategy, gamblers increase the size of their bet after a losing wager and return to their standard betting unit after a winning wager. For example, if your standard betting unit at blackjack is $10 and you lose that hand, you would double the amount to $20 for the next hand. If you lose that hand you would then double the bet again to $40 for the following hand and continue in that manner until you eventually win. When you do finally win a hand, you return to the original bet of one standard betting unit.

Under this concept when you do win a hand you will recoup all of your earlier losses plus one standard betting unit. Many consider this to be one of the best gambling strategies because, in theory, you will never lose since a win must eventually show up for everyone. The problem is that you may not be able to afford to stick around until that winning bet finally arrives. And remember, under this strategy the most you will net when you do win is one betting unit. So under this scenario, if you’ve lost five bets in a row your next bet will be for $320 and, assuming you win that bet, your net winnings for the six bets will be that same $10 that you started with. But if you lose that hand too, your total loss for the six hands will be $630 – all for the chance to win that $10. If, on the other hand, you happen to win all six of those hands your total winnings would be $60.

An “offensive” progression betting strategy is also a very popular strategy despite the fact that it takes the opposite approach. Here gamblers increase the size of their bet after a winning wager and return to their standard betting unit after a losing wager. Look, for example at an excellent “modified” offensive progression strategy. Bet that same $10 standard unit on the blackjack hand and keep the bet at $10 until you win a hand. After winning that first hand take one-half of you winnings off the table and increase the next bet with the remaining one-half. Your next wager would then be $15. If you win that hand repeat the procedure and your next wager becomes $22.50, and so on. When you eventually lose, return to the $10 standard unit bet.

The theory here is that when you catch a long winning streak you win big and when you catch a long losing streak your losses are minimized. In this “offensive” scenario, if you lose those six hands in a row your total loss is just $60. But if you win those six hands in a row your total winnings would be about $208. This compares quite favorably to the upside of winning just $60 with the “defensive” progression strategy and the downside of dropping the much larger sum of $630.

Of course even with the best gambling strategies no single approach is going to work in every possible scenario. If you have a streak where you alternate wins and losses, the “defensive” progression strategy will work the best. But with extended streaks, whether winning or losing, the “offensive” progression system will perform better. And my experience has been that gambling is indeed a game of streaks that can appear at any time and sometimes last for what seems like an eternity. That’s why when you see me sitting at a table I’ll be using some version of an “offensive” progression system.
